NEW BUSINESS MODEL
CCPA has eliminated time and complexity in the Patenting process
Over more than ten years of solid experience preparing, filing and prosecuting hundreds of patent applications and issuing nearly a thousand patents, CCPA has developed and thoroughly tested a model for preparing and prosecuting patent applications that eliminates much of the time and complexity typically associated with the process.

Billable hours is a disincentive for finishing any job

When CCPA was founded several years ago an initial decision was made that subsequently proved critical, and led to a number of important discoveries. That decision was to establish with each client, as much as possible, a fixed fee basis for patent preparation and prosecution. The idea was that a "billable hours" basis could be a disincentive to accomplishing the goal, and a fixed fee basis would motivate. It turned out to be even more true than we anticipated.

Only valuable result is broad patents issued sooner rather than later
There is only one valuable result in the patenting process; that is issued patents with broad claims, as quickly as possible. All else has to lead to this goal.

These things are necessary
  • Disclosures quickly made with a minimum of effort for the client
  • Patent specification complete with claims finished and reviewed, then filed
  • Examination office actions actions quickly and competently answered
  • Interviews with examiners done whenever needed
  • Little or no unnecessary micromanagement from the client
  • Reliable records kept and easily accessible
  • Status reports made regularly and completely to client

These are NOT necessary

  • Large and expensive offices
  • Impressive conference rooms and libraries
  • Overstaffed research and docketing departments
  • Overdone billing for unnecessary correspondence, copies, phone calls etc...
  • Endless meetings plotting strategy against unknown or unlikely events
  • Large and expensive patent searches where more money is spent searching than it costs to compose a patent application
  • Micromanagement of the process by people not experienced in the process

The answer is to eliminate as much as possible all unnecessary tasks
By eliminating unnecessary work and all "for show" props and processes and focusing on only those things that must be done to get patents issued, applications can be done much faster, more and better patents can be issued quickly.

This approach is definitely not for everyone

There are many inventors and firms that are convinced, for whatever reason, that they need large, expensive and showy patent firms, lots and lots of meetings, telephone conferences, micro-management and in-depth planning. If this is you, we can't help you much. You need to go to one of the big, expensive firms that charge by the hour. If all you want is results (good patents issued), and time to devote to other important non-IP tasks, we may be the firm for you.
